Praying in other tongues helps us express desires supernaturally that we cannot articulate with natural words. Holy Spirit comes to our aid and guides us beyond our weaknesses, our inability to get results. He helps us pray the perfect will of God every time (Romans 8:26-28).
Many situations and circumstances arise in our lives and others that require divine intervention, angelic assistance, changes, restoration, deliverance, salvation, etc. How do we know what scripture will work the most effectively in each individual scenario? Our Helper, the Holy Spirit!
His ministry as our Helper is also Comforter, Counselor, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener and Standby. He is the Spirit of Truth that leads us and guides us. He shows us things that have not happened yet. He is the Spirit of Prayer (John 14:16-17; John 16:13-15)!
Many years ago, at my youngest daughter’s university, there was a mass shooting. I was in Brazil at the time teaching prayer school, and she was scheduled to be on-campus. No information was being released, I could not make any phone calls, and the mother in me started to panic.
As I began praying in other tongues, God’s peace embraced me and covered me like a blanket. I had an inner knowing that she was safe and unharmed. I heard a calming voice say, “Go to sleep.” So, instead of staying up all night quoting every scripture regarding her deliverance, He instructed me to sleep. Three days later, I FINALLY heard from her. Even though she was supposed to be in the targeted building that day, she went to visit a friend instead. God protected her! HE IS FAITHFUL!
I am forever grateful for the gift of the Holy Spirit, especially as it relates to prayer. Pastor Terri Copeland Pearsons grandmother, Venetta Copeland, used to always say, “Hit it in tongues, Honey. Hit it in tongues.” It is certainly one of the best ways to pray about anything, great or small.
